Pulled Out Wide in Padel? Lob and Reset Instead of Forcing a Pass
They have pulled you out to the side and you are stretched. The tempting answer is the spectacular one: thread a passing shot down the line and win the point from nowhere.
That is the shot they are hoping for. From out wide it almost never works, and there is a much cheaper way out of the situation.
The pass is what they are waiting for
Trying to force a winner from a stretched position means the finest margin on the court played from your worst balance.
And if it does get over, a net player simply volleys it away. You took a large risk for a shot they were already positioned to punish.
Play a high crosscourt lob instead
Send it high and crosscourt. The diagonal is the longest route on the court, which gives you the most margin and, more importantly, the most time.
Height matters as much as direction. A high ball takes seconds off the clock, and seconds are exactly what you are short of when you are out of position.
Use that time to get back to the middle
While the lob is in the air, walk back to a sensible position. This is the whole purpose of the shot, and it is the part players skip.
A lob that buys three seconds is wasted if you spend them watching it. Hit and move.
The point starts again, level
You have gone from stretched and losing to balanced and neutral, without risking a single low percentage shot.
That is not a defensive mindset, it is an efficient one. You do not have to win the point from the worst position on the court. You only have to stop being in it.
