Play More Neutral Balls in Padel: Make the Rally Longer

There is a shot most amateurs almost never play, and it is not a fancy one. It is the neutral ball: safe, deep enough, not trying to do anything special.

The reason it is rare is that it feels like giving up. It is actually how the good balls get created.

Not every ball is an opportunity

Trying to win the point on every shot means attacking from positions that do not support an attack. That is where unforced errors come from.

Most balls in a rally are simply not opportunities. Treating them as if they were is a choice to lose points that were never in danger.

Longer rallies favour you

Every extra ball is another chance for them to make the mistake. Neutral balls extend rallies, and extended rallies at amateur level end in errors far more often than in winners.

You are not being passive. You are stacking chances in your favour and refusing to pay for them.

Then the easy ball arrives

Play enough neutral balls and eventually a genuinely weak one comes back. That is the moment the patience was for.

Lob it and take the net. You have gone from neutral to attacking without ever taking a risky shot to get there.
