Every Point Is Worth the Same in Padel: Stop Paying Extra for Them
There is a decision you make dozens of times a match without noticing: how much risk to accept in exchange for a point.
Most amateurs get this badly wrong, not because they cannot execute, but because they have never actually looked at what the two options pay.
The risky winner scores one point
You go for the spectacular line and it lands. Fifteen. It felt fantastic and everyone noticed.
The scoreboard moves by exactly one point, and there is no mechanism in padel that pays more for a harder shot.
Their error also scores one point
Now play the boring, safe ball instead. Keep it in, make them play again, and eventually they miss.
Fifteen. The same fifteen. Identical value, from a shot that carried almost no chance of going wrong.
So why pay more for the same thing?
If two routes pay the same, the only rational question is which one costs less. The risky shot misses more often, and every miss hands a point the other way.
The good player is not being timid. They have simply noticed that the expensive route and the cheap route lead to the same place.
Use their mistakes instead
At amateur level most points are lost, not won. The pair that keeps the ball in play and makes the other side hit one more shot wins a lot of matches without hitting anything memorable.
Take the risky shot when it genuinely ends the point and the odds are good. The rest of the time, let them pay for it.
