Anticipation in Padel: Position Yourself for the Ball They Always Play

Anticipation sounds like a gift some players have. Mostly it is just noticing that the same thing keeps happening and standing somewhere that accounts for it.

The clearest example: you lob them, and they lob you straight back. Every time. Yet most players keep standing in the same spot and keep getting beaten by it.

Notice the pattern

Pairs have habits. Some always lob, some always go crosscourt under pressure, some always play the middle when stretched.

You do not need to read body language for this. You only need to notice what has already happened twice.

Stand slightly deeper than normal

If the lob is coming, do not take up your tightest net position. Sit a step or two behind it.

You give up almost nothing at the net, because a pair who lob under pressure are not the pair threading passing shots at your feet.

Now the lob is a bandeja, not a crisis

From there, the lob you were expecting arrives in front of you rather than over your head. You can play a controlled bandeja instead of scrambling backwards.
