Switching Sides in Padel: Shout Switch When Your Poach Fails

You crossed to intercept, you did not quite get it, and now you are standing in your partner's half while your own side is empty.

This happens constantly and it is not really a mistake. Poaching is worth doing. The mistake is what most pairs do next, which is nothing.

A failed poach leaves half the court open

You committed across, the ball went past you, and the pair is now stacked on one side. Anything into the space you left is uncontested.

Both of you can see it. What usually happens is that both of you also freeze, each waiting to find out what the other is doing.

One word fixes it

Shout switch. That is the whole technique. It tells your partner to take the side you vacated instead of trying to get back to their own.

It has to be loud and it has to be immediate. A late call is worse than no call, because you both end up moving at the same time to the same place.

Now nobody has to run back

Switching means neither of you retraces your steps. You stay where you are, your partner covers the open side, and the shape is restored in one movement.

Trying to undo the poach by sprinting back is always slower than simply swapping responsibilities.
